An unexpected surprise visit...

Last night my husband called me while I was out shopping with my mom to let me know we had some "visitors" who needed me to come home as soon as I I rush home to find no "visitors" were there, unless of course you counted Ray and off to the computer room I headed to check out the blogs, read my 100s of emails that accumulated during the day, etc. About 5 minutes later, Ray tells me the "visitors" were back...

so down the hall I go, wondering who these "visitors" could be...and i was pleasantly surprised by these sweet faces, my 2 yr old great niece Angeliena, my 3 yr old great nephew Damion, and my niece Katrina:

(this picture was taken by Angeliena, a 2 year old):

after visiting with them and snapping lots of shots of them showing me their teeth, and posing for pictures (they love to "cheese out" for pictures for Aunt Dannye's blog....see for yourself)...

I let them take some pictures with the camera...these are some of the pictures as seen through a 2 and 3 year olds eyes (definitely have a future in photography, hehe):

this is a picture of our couch, hey at least the couch is in the picture:

and yes this is my arm, taken while giving Katrina the updated gossip on everything, although the kids said they were taking a picture of Aunt Dannye (guess technically that's true, it is my arm, hehe):

one of Freckles, who stood still just long enough for them to snap this shot:

a picture of Uncle Ray's keys because "they pretty":

another of Freckles, "hey Aunt Dannye what happened Freckles' head??"

and finally a picture of Damion holding Uncle Ray's "pretty" keys (maybe his head is with Freckles?, hehe):

Have a great weekend, and may you get some unexpected visitors at your house too!!

Top 10 best things to say when getting caught sleeping at work

So what do you do when your boss walks in and catches you asleep at your desk? You could freak out and get fired, or rattle off some really good excuses. The top 10 best things to say when getting caught asleep are:

10) ”They told me at the blood bank this might happen.”

9) ”This is just a 15 minute power-nap like they raved about in that time management course you sent me to.”

8) ”Whew! Guess I left the top off the White-Out. You probably got here just in time!”

7) ”I wasn’t sleeping! I was meditating on the mission statement and envisioning a new paradigm.”

6) ”I was testing my keyboard for drool resistance.”

5) ”I was doing a highly specific Yoga exercise to relieve work-related stress. Do you discriminate toward people who practice Yoga?”

4) ”Dang! Why did you interrupt me? I had almost figured out a solution to our biggest problem.”

3) ”The coffee machine is broken…”

2) ”Someone must have put decaf in the wrong pot…”

1) ”… Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Catch up on the weekend activities....

Okay, so my blogging has become a little, alright a lot, sporadic...I can't help it...I just don't have much to talk about...

my camera went on the fritz (luckily it is under warranty and I am told will be shipped out to me by Wednesday)....I miss my camera...

This weekend was filled with fun (although my only source of pictures is my phone, thanks Katy for reminding me it has camera capabilities....)...

On Saturday, Mom and I met Angie, her Mom Brenda, Ginnie, Jay, Malory, Chase, and Ali for lunch at Sweet Tomatoes....we had a great time (as we always do), and got some great ideas for some adoption fund raising activities (our first fund raiser is our community garage sale taking place 4/18-4/19)....we are gonna have so much fun, while raising money for our daughters!! Thanks gals for including me!!

Then Mom and I continued our day with shopping for Easter, from "Bunny fixings" shopping to buying the ham and fixings for dinner....we did really great, and found some great bargains.

Then Ray and I met my boss, his wife, and one of my bestest friends Mike to celebrate his "homecoming" anniversary from Vietnam (it's been 36 yrs on Saturday)...what amazing stories he shared with us...I am so very blessed to have him as a friend...I love him dearly!!

Of course no pictures of Saturday's activities because I didn't have my brain on then (I did have my phone with me all day, but the light bulb didn't come on that it is also a camera)....

Sunday comes around, and the excitement continued....lunch at my mom's with the whole family (minus my brother in law who is "living our dream" by being in China, although he is only on a business trip...yup I'm jealous he's in China before we are...hope you get all you want and more out of your trip David!! We are definitely praying for you!!) We ate and ate, and sought hidden Easter eggs with my nephew Adam, made and ate cotton candy (in Adam's cotton candy maker the Easter bunny brought him), blew bubbles, climbed trees, played Cootie and Yahtzee....and just enjoyed one another....

This I do have evidence of...

We really had a great weekend...and glad I finally had something to blog about...have a good week!!

The Real Easter Bunny...

He weighs in at 22 pounds and measures a little over 3 feet .. he is a breed
of rabbit called german giant (how appropriate!). This is his owner, Hans Wagner,
struggling to hold him up. from the NY Post article:

We don't feed him an unusual diet said Wagner. He goes through
more than his brothers and sisters, but he eats the same food mix.
His favorite food is actually lettuce. He can never get enough of it.

Happy Easter!!

Guess clean feet are important....

Wed Mar 12, 2008

BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese bride burnt her new husband to death
after he got into bed after a drunken argument without washing his
feet, state media reported on Wednesday.

"Wang and his wife, Luo, were married on February 2. The couple,
however, frequently fought over trivial things while still on their
honeymoon," the official Xinhua news agency quoted a local newspaper
as saying.

The couple, from the central province of Hubei, had another fight on
the night of March 4, "and in frustration they together drank a
bottle of liquor to ease their anger".

"At about 10 p.m., Luo watched her husband get into bed without
cleaning or washing his feet. In a fit of anger and intoxication,
she set fire to the sheet he was sleeping in," the report said.

"When he awoke, the two began fighting before a very drunk Wang
collapsed. As fire engulfed the bedroom. Luo escaped to the living
room, leaving her other half to burn," it added.

The woman has been arrested, Xinhua said.

And we have lift-off.....

We are so lucky to live so close (but yet just far enough away) to see these spectacular events....and the night launches are the coolest....God Speed Endeavour crew members!!

Here's an article about this launch from the AP News Press:

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Shuttle Endeavour and a crew of seven blasted into orbit Tuesday on what was to be the longest space station mission ever, a 16-day voyage to build a gangly robot and add a new room that will serve as a closet for a future lab.

The space shuttle roared from its seaside pad at 2:28 a.m., lighting up the sky for miles around as it took off on a multinational flight involving Canada and Japan.

It was a rare treat: The last time NASA launched a shuttle at nighttime was in 2006. Only about a quarter of shuttle flights have begun in darkness.

"Good luck and Godspeed, and we'll see you back here in 16 days," launch director Mike Leinbach radioed to the astronauts right before liftoff.

"Banzai," replied Endeavour's commander, Dominic Gorie, using a Japanese exclamation of joy. "God truly has blessed us with a beautiful night here, Mike, to launch, so let's light 'em up and give 'em a show."

They did. The shuttle took flight with a flash of light, giving a peach-yellow glow to the low clouds just offshore before disappearing into the darkness.

Gorie and his crew face a daunting job once they reach the international space station late Wednesday night. The astronauts will perform five spacewalks, the most ever planned during a shuttle visit.

The launching site was jammed with Canadians and Japanese representing two of the major partners in the international space station. The Canadian Space Agency supplied Dextre, the two-armed robot that was hitching a ride aboard Endeavour, while the Japanese Space Agency sent up the first part of its massive Kibo lab, a storage compartment for experiments, tools and spare parts.

Also on hand for the liftoff was a 19-member congressional delegation led by Rep. Nick Lampson, D-Texas, whose district includes Johnson Space Center in Houston. He is pushing for increased NASA funding.

For the first time since space station construction began nearly 10 years ago, all five major partners were about to own a piece of the orbiting real estate. The launch of the first section of Kibo, or Hope, finally propelled Japan into the space station action.

"With this flight I believe that we finally became a real partner of the (space station) project, not just one of the members on the list, after 20 some years of effort in the project," said Keiji Tachikawa, head of the Japanese Space agency.

Work on the space station project began in the mid-1980s, with preliminary design work for Kibo (pronounced KEE'-boh) starting in 1990. Space station construction, however, was stalled over the years for various reasons, most recently the 2003 Columbia tragedy.

The main part of the Kibo lab will fly on the next shuttle mission in May, with the final installment, a porch for outdoor experiments, going up next year.

Altogether, the Japanese Space Agency has invested about $6.7 billion in the space station program, including a Kibo control center near Tokyo.

Canada's $200 million-plus Dextre, meanwhile, is designed to eventually take over some of the more routine outdoor maintenance chores from spacewalking astronauts. Dextre, short for dexterous and pronounced like Dexter, will join the space station's Canadian-built robot arm, already in orbit for seven years.

In addition to working with their international payloads, Endeavour's astronauts will try out a caulking gun and high-tech goo on deliberately damaged shuttle thermal tile samples. The test — part of NASA's ongoing post-Columbia safety effort — should have been performed last year, but was put off because of emergency space station repairs.

Astronaut Garrett Reisman will stay behind on the space station until June, swapping places with a Frenchman who accompanied Europe's Columbus lab into orbit in February.

A Japanese astronaut is also part of Endeavour's all-male crew.

Endeavour's countdown was the smoothest in years, officials said. Shortly after liftoff, however, the astronauts had to deal with a couple of problems that ended up being minor. They got alert messages for some of their ship's steering thrusters, but it turned out to be a bad electronics card. Then the primary cooling system failed, and they had to switch to the backup.

A cursory look at the initial launch images — fewer than usual because of the nighttime launch — showed only one significant loss of debris from the external fuel tank 83 seconds into the flight. But it appeared to miss the right wing.

In any event, Endeavour will be checked thoroughly in orbit for any potential damage, standard procedure ever since the loss of Columbia because of a foam strike.

"This is just a wonderful beginning to what's going to be a long and challenging mission for us," said LeRoy Cain, a shuttle manager who gave the final "go" for launch. "But we're really looking forward to it and we're ready to go, ready to get to work on orbit."

It is the second of six planned shuttle missions this year, all but one to the space station. NASA faces a 2010 deadline for finishing the station and retiring its shuttles.
